What is a cell, its structure and function ??

Fig:-Structure of cell.

Cell is the structural and functional unit of life.It is because the body of every living organism is made up of Cell.Either of singlé cell or group of cells. Those organisms whose body is  made up of Single Cell are called unicellular organisms while those organisms whose body is  made up of more than one Cell i.e multiple cells are caled multicellular organisms. The cell of living organisms is composed of many components. The living components which are active metabolically are considered as Cell organelles while the component Of cell which are non-living and metabolically inactive are Called cell inclusions.Nucleus (Brain of cell or Master organell of cell), mitochondria(power house of cell),

Lysosome (Suicidal bag of the cell),

Ribosome (protein factory of the cell),

Golgi apparatus, Endoplasmic reticulum(Endoskeleton of cell),

etc are the examples of cell organelles whereas protein, fatty acids, carbohydrates, lipids, minerals etc are the example of cell inclusions. All the activity of cells are performed by the mutual work of cell organelles and cell inclusions of the cell. The proper function of cells is very necessary for performing regular activities, metabolism and life process of living organisms. The development of organism is due the division  of cell i.e formation of new cells from pre-existing cells. It also conduct reproduction and heredity process which continues the existence of life on the earth. The group of similarly specialized cells that together perform certain special function is called tissue. Tissue together form organ and organ together form system and at last systems together form an individual.

  • On the basis of complexity of cell. They are differentiate into two groups. They are:-

1.Prokaryotic cell(pro: primitive,karyon:Nucleus)

For Ex:-Bacteria,Blue green algae(B G A),etc

2.Eukaryotic cell(EU:Well,karyon:Nucleus)

For Ex:-Human,Cat,birds,(All except prokaryotes).
